My 8-year-old son was completely captivated by this kit. It’s an awesome blend of science and art. We set it up right by our living room window, and watching the silhouettes appear like actual photography prints was so cool. The markers that come with it are high quality too.
Bought this for my niece's 6th birthday and she absolutely loved it. Her parents were thrilled that it kept her focused without needing a screen. The stencil selection is massive so she was able to make a bunch of different scenes.
The concept of this kit is fantastic and my kids had a lot of fun designing their scenes. However, we tried doing it on a cloudy afternoon using a standard desk lamp and the silhouettes barely showed up even after waiting 20 minutes. It definitely works best with direct, bright sunlight. Once we moved to a sunny window the next morning, it worked beautifully. Just keep an eye on the weather!
It’s hard to find craft kits that interest my older daughter, but the science aspect of this one totally hooked her. She loved dipping the exposed paper in water to make the deep blue color pop out. Very unique product.
My kids loved watching the silhouettes appear on the sun paper, it really did feel like magic to them. The stencils are great too. My only minor complaint is that a couple of the lighter colored markers started drying out after they colored in just three of the larger sheets. We just used our own markers to finish the rest, which worked fine.
As a mom, I love that this doesn't involve glue or glitter. The stencils are thick plastic and can be reused forever. The kids loved adding the googly eyes at the end to make the animals look silly.
We used this as part of our STEAM curriculum to talk about light exposure and negative images. The instruction manual explained the history perfectly. The kids learned a lot while creating beautiful artwork.
My 7-year-old daughter had an absolute blast with this kit. The stencils are great and the process is magical. My only complaint is that there are only 10 sheets of the magical paper included in the box. With so many stencils (over 50!), she went through all the paper in two days. I wish they sold refill packs of just the special light-sensitive paper.
My 5-year-old was able to layout the stencils all on her own. It's a very straightforward process but yields incredibly rewarding results. It really helped her practice her fine motor skills while coloring inside the lines later.
This is a really well thought out craft kit. The process of using light to reveal the hidden art is very engaging for my 7 year old. The stencils are very sturdy. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the papers are a bit on the small side, making it hard to fit more than two or three animal stencils on a page without overlapping them completely.
Highly recommend this kit. The components and robust stencils mean it lasts. The markers are vibrant and don't bleed through the thick project paper.
My grandkids called it a magic trick. They couldn't believe the paper changed color just from sitting by the window light. Dipping it in the water tray was their favorite part. Excellent value for money.
The final artwork turns out really neat, but my 4-year-old struggled with the waiting period. Ten minutes of letting it sit under the light feels like an eternity to a toddler, and she kept moving the stencils around mid-process, which blurred the silhouettes. It's an excellent activity, but definitely better suited for patient 6 or 7-year-olds unless you want to constantly manage them.
Bought this to have on hand for a rainy weekend and it saved the day. The animal silhouettes look so crisp when done right. Both my son and daughter spent hours customizing their boards with the included markers.
I’ve bought similar sun print kits before but this one is way better because it incorporates stencils and markers to make it a multi-step project. It’s not just a one-and-done science experiment.
My 6-year-old really enjoyed watching the paper turn blue in the water. The art comes out looking very unique. My only tip is that the stencils are lightweight plastic, so if a pet walks by or someone bumps the table while it's exposing near the window, they slide easily and mess up the shadow. We used a tiny bit of tape to hold them down the second time and it worked great.
Very unique craft kit. Sent this to my nephew for his 8th birthday and his mom told me he wouldn't stop playing with it. It’s hard to find non-screen activities that grab kids' attention like this.

No messy paints or glue spills to worry about. Just light and water! The prints dry quickly so they can get right to coloring them. Will definitely buy again for future playdates.
